This Wiki is for anyone who is wanting to learn how to create patterns and for those who wish to take up tailoring or dressmaking as a hobby. With the majority of garments produced being made in poor conditions, by poor people, for poor wages, it will become more common for people in the west to want to buy and make their own. This Wiki starts from the perspective that tailoring, dressmaking and pattern-making are legitimate and useful skills which can be used to produce ethical clothes.
The goals of this wiki are to provide:
- detailed instructions on how learn essential skills for tailoring, dressmaking and patternmaking.
- beginning-to-end instructions for making clothing and apparel of various kinds.
- details on using modern industrial methods to improve productivity.
- information on distributors and retailers which provide ethically-sourced fabrics and materials within the United Kingdom and United States.
Any contributions are welcome, particularly from those who have experience in tailoring or dressmaking, as any frequent mistakes produced in this wiki can be rectified by those who are more knowledgable than our rookie contributor.
