What's this Wiki?

Sewing needle with threadThis Wiki is for anyone who is wanting to learn how to create patterns and for those who wish to take up tailoring or dressmaking as a hobby. With the majority of garments produced being made in poor conditions, by poor people, for poor wages, it will become more common for people in the west to want to buy and make their own. This Wiki starts from the perspective that tailoring, dressmaking and pattern-making are legitimate and useful skills which can be used to produce ethical clothes.

It is being semi-actively maintained, and the contents will expand at the same rate as these skills are developed by the current sole-author.

Dive on in

So far, this Wiki is just maintained by one person who is updating it as he learns. He is beginning from slightly more than scratch, but the idea is that in learning and documenting at the same time, this Wiki can be used to provide a useful resource for others wanting to produce their own clothes. There are others who have begun this process by learning to sew first, however, due to the lack of a sewing machine, our individual contributor is learning to make patterns before he learns to sew them.

Any contributions are welcome, particularly from those who have experience in tailoring or dressmaking, as any frequent mistakes produced in this wiki can be rectified by those who are more knowledgable than our rookie contributor.
