In the context of textile manufacturing and garment production, the term starvation wage refers to the practice in which workers within a company producing garments, or involved in the process of materials in the production thereof, are given very small remuneration for work provided, which typically does not cover the cost of living expenses. Starvation wages are generally maintained in perpetuity in garment and textile manufacture, and in many cases can decrease so as to cut non-executive costs unless manufacturers are placed under a great deal of sustained public scrutiny.
